James Franco "Embarrassed," Bails on Own Oscar Party - E! Online

James Franco "Embarrassed," Bails on Own Oscar Party - E! Online

Hit: Gwyneth Paltrow - Makeup hits and misses from the Academy Awards on Shine

Hit: Gwyneth Paltrow - Makeup hits and misses from the Academy Awards on Shine

What a Fun Night the Oscars Were!

Did you enjoy the Oscars last night? Boy I sure did. Anne Hathaway is hilarious, and she and James Franco made a great team. He's a funny, dry-humor guy. I really liked him, and now I just love her! They kind of had that Hepburn/Tracy vibe going on.

It was so funny when Anne Hathaway dressed in a tux and sang about how Hugh Jackman left her stranded, alone. Then comes along James Franco in a red evening gown and blonde wig. OMG! I really had a good laugh.

I was so happy that my man, Christine Bale, won Best Supporting Actor. He certainly deserved it. And what about Melissa Leo with the F word? She's already caught a lot of flack for her blatant self-promotion before the show, and now this. I guess she thinks controversy is good. Obviously she's right, she won!

There were some beautiful gowns, huh? The satiny, blue, almost purple gown that Anne Hathaway wore during one of the presentations took my breath away! And Oprah, she was looking SO beautiful last night at the Oscars!

The whole internet is abuzz about the eight costume changes Anne Hathaway made at the Oscars last night. There are a lot of snarky comments, I guess people like controversy as much as Melissa Leo! I think they believe, as promoters first and foremost, that controversy will draw traffic to their blogs and websites. WHATEVER! Anne looked gorgeous in every single gown she wore.

Here is that breathtaking blue dress I was talking about:

All in all it was a great show. I really loved the way they had Anne Hathaway and James Franco appearing in all the movies in the beginning of the show. And what about the great tribute Celine Dion sang to stars we lost in 2010? Very moving. The kids from PS2 at the end singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow actually brought a tear to my eye.

Oprah's show today will be after the Oscars, can't wait to watch it. Now, back to reality!

Oscar Buzz and Finally, The Academy Awards!

I am getting so excited about the Oscars that I have decided to go ahead and start posting about Oscars past, The Academy Awards in general, and what E! Entertainment News on TV and other blogs and websites online are saying about the upcoming Oscars tonight.
It's about 1:30 pm in Texas, and the Oscars start on ABC here at 5, so I have a couple of hours to go.
Don't forget to comment on this post for a chance to win one of two $25 restaurant gift cards I have left. Started out with three, two more to go. Winners will be announced tomorrow.

I am watching E! Entertainment News on cable right now, and they are showing commercials that stars were in before they became famous. Leonardo DiCaprio was in a bubble gum commercial in 1983. Sure was surprised to see that!

Hang around, leave a comment, and feel free to leave a link to your Oscar-related post or find. We are going to have a blast today and tonight following Oscar buzz!

And speaking of contest, here's a great one! Holland America Line ContestEnter to win a week long European cruise for two.

The Oscars are Sunday night, Feb. 27th and Hollywood, TV and the internet are all abuzz. I am presenting some of the most interesting posts about the Academy Awards in this post. Enjoy and feel free to add yours!

Here is a great post from Women's Voices for Change with Their Oscar Predictions.

The Official Oscar website has a very cool tool on a page dedicated just to the Academy Awards where you get to vote on your predictions! What fun, gotta do this, ya'll! The URL is My Oscar Picks.

And also, don't forget to watch Oprah the day after the Oscars for all the lowdown that we will miss or not be privy to, always a great Oprah episode.

Here is a great post from USATODAY with the Oscar fashion forecast, and also talk about hair, makeup, and even celebrity skin care secrets, along with Academy Award fashions from the past. Very nice, in-depth article. USATODAY really has it going on when it comes to discussing the Oscars! Here is a post I ran across on Facebook where USATODAY discusses how social media is being used to promote Oscar glow.

Jen Chaney from Washington Post's Celebritology is live in L.A., blogging and tweeting about the Oscars, interviewing nominees, and just basically having a blast. You can keep up with her and even ask Natalie Portman questions on the Twitter page #oscarspotting. Have fun, Jen!

Who Will The Bachelor Choose?

Are you as big a fan of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette as I am? I have been watching both reality shows since the very beginning. I haven't missed a season of either one.

But this season's bachelor, Brad Womack--who is so famous for being on the show once already and choosing NO ONE--has something about him that I just don't like. I have been trying to put my finger on it, and the only thing I can come up with is that I feel he is never being sincere.

The most sincere I have seen him was when he visited Ashley's family on last night's show. He really seemed to relax for the first time and be himself. Now, to be fair to Brad, he did say at the beginning of The Bachelor this season, that he had been in therapy about his inability to commit. Maybe that is what I am sensing rather than insincerity? His nervousness, or hesitation to get too close? I wish I could interview him and just ask him straight out what is bugging him. Is it the camera?

Anyway, there are only three women left, Chantel, Ashley, and Emily. After watching the hometown visits last night, where Brad met the ladies' families, my choice at this point is Ashley. Although, watching E Entertainment tonight, their poll of viewers favors Emily. (They also said that the ring Brad has chosen is the most expensive one in the history of the show.)

What do you think? Which of the ladies do you predict Brad will choose?

Aging Gracefully

Stop mourning the loss of your younger body and love yourself today. Great post from Already Pretty.com.

Vogue Photos and Google's New Boutiques.com

While strolling around the internet today I stumbled across several very interesting things and wanted to share with my readers.

First up, I was checking out my messages at IFB.com, (Independent Fashion Bloggers), and was turned on to this blog, A Heel of a Height, where there are so rad photos from Vogue. Here is one, and what I thought when I saw it is that only Vogue could get away with making something like this look posh. It's really kind of gross!

What do you think?

Also, I was on my Elegant Daily Facebook page, where I always find myself checking out the ads on the right of the page. There was one for Boutiques.com, so I clicked on it. The first thing I thought was that they needed their Facebook like button or a Twitter widget, or something. Then I got to reading what the site was all about and discovered that Boutiques.com belongs to Google!

So I created a boutique for Elegant Daily. The site is pretty cool. It ask you several questions about your style, shows you selections of pictures to compare different styles and lets you choose the one you like the best, then based on your choices creates the name of your style. Mine, of course, is BOHO. Check out my boutique at Boutiques.com, and make your own. You can follow and be followed by other boutiques from bloggers, celebrities, designers. Very nice way to get your fashion related stuff seen.

See you there!

ESPN Research Study Shows Viewers Enjoy 3D more than HD TV

Go 3D! My favorite medium has finally gotten it's day in court after years of criticism. 3D TV is the preferred method of TV viewing. The study conducted by the ESPN Research + Analytics department proves that 3D is definitely the wave of the future. This study was done in Nov. 2010 but I just found it and had to share.

There is a great article on the whole process of the study and the conclusions. From ESPN Media Zone: "Conducted over the course of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, this is one of the most ambitious studies of 3D viewing to date. Participants were tested prior to 3D viewing, in test and post test to garner a wide range of information. Testing was completed at the Disney Media & Advertising Lab which was developed to better understand the emotional drivers of audience behavior and physiological reactions to advertising. The facility conducts year-round tests using the most advanced research techniques including biometric measurement tolls to evaluate engagement and emotional responses."

Here is the link to the full article.

I am ready to break out the champagne! I have been a huge fan of 3D since it first arrived on the scene, and was one of the first to get a 3D TV. 3D rocks, ladies and gents, and if you don't have a 3D TV yet, you'd do well to add one to your wish list. You just don't know what you're missing if you have never experienced 3D TV.

Wild and Elegant Furniture Designs of the 21st Century

If watchwords for the 21st century were to be chosen at this point, two of them would definitely be Innovation and Information. Not since the Age of Enlightenment have there been so many man-made advances in such a short period of time. Add to that instant access to breaking news, the latest discoveries, along with educational information, all at the tips of our fingers, and what you have is the most informed and forward-thinking society in history.

One particularly interesting area of innovation since the turn of the century is furniture design. Practical, affordable, smart and environmentally-friendly furniture designs are quickly gaining in popularity. Ornate, cumbersome, impractical furniture is becoming blasé. The great part is that with this turn in furniture design, innovation has remained at the forefront. Creativity is the number one consideration of many designers…the more outlandish the better. However, on the whole, designers are creating furniture which offers consumers the ultimate egalitarian experience for their homes and offices without sacrificing eye-appeal, luxury and style.

Let’s take a tour of the spectrum, from outlandish to highly practical. Below you will find some of the most noteworthy furniture designs of the 21st Century from across the web. Take the time to enjoy, and join the celebration of the wonderful innovations the 21st century has ushered in.

Stiletto Chair

This unusual chair, called the Stiletto Chair, was created by a team of faculty and students in Virginia Tech’s School of Architecture + Design. Virginia Tech represented the United States at the imm Cologne International Furniture Fair in Germany in January 2009.

The only university from the US invited to participate in this international event, Virginia Tech offered their exhibition as Industrialized Furniture. The students designed their pieces, including the Stiletto Chair, using emerging digital and technical processes, most of which were computer-controlled systems. Linking experimentation with design research, Virginia Tech has also participated in exhibitions such as the Solar Decathlon and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair.

Winding up Live Coverage of 2011 Grammy Awards

This is my last post tonight. I really enjoyed blogging about the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards. I hope you enjoyed following along.

Right now there is a band playing called Arcade Fire. Why in the world they would save this for the end of the show rather than have Barbra Streisand lull us to sleep with Evergreen is beyond me. The song is hurting my eyes.

Although I do like the outfit the girl drummer is wearing.

I think Album of the Year is the last award, and it should be coming up next. Presenters are Kris Kristofresen and Barbra Streisand.

Recovery is going to win, don't really care by this point who is nominated, it's been that dull, glad I committed myself to blogging about this award show or I would have turned the TV off by now.

Arcade Fire won Album of the Year, and nobody knows who they are, (well, I am sure some people do, stand and be counted.

I'm done, show over or not. Goodnight.

Barbra Streisand Performs at Grammys 2011

We have another old guy, Kris Kristofregen, ((I know that's not spelled right) introducing Barbra Streisand, singing one of my favorites of her songs, Evergreen. Even she's beginning to show her age. Man, this show has made me sad in a way, all my old favorites have become the old folks, like me.

Oh, well, Barbra Streisand's voice is as rich as it ever was!! She looks beautiful too, she is wearing the most gorgeous maroon gown, I'd give my eyeteeth to own a dress like that. Long, flowing, crepe, pleated.

Niki Minoj and one of the Black Eyed Peas present Best Rap Album. Ok. I think it's time for my cigarette break. Eminem is going to win anyway. (Can you tell I am getting tired?)

Told you! Eminem won Best Rap Album for Recovery.

Ok, guys and gals, I am taking a break until the end of this show. I am really tired, and I don't care for rap, so even though Rhianna is performing a very explicit dance that should be reserved for late, late television, I am gonna have to go...puke!

Grammy Awards 2011 Live Coverage, the Fine Print and Memoriam

Right now they are going over the history of the Grammy's, what the Grammy's do for disadvantaged neighborhoods, new broadcast services, and making sure musicians get paid and you don't download pirated copies of music. On behalf of the Academy stuff.

Remembering signers, songwriters, and other performance artists who have passed.(A long list!) The ones I recognize:

Don Kirshner
Eddie Fisher
Alex Chilton

And ooh, Mick Jagger. He still has HIS voice! And he can still move, although, wow does he look old. He IS old. He is putting on one hell of a performance!! He's wearing a quilted, torquoise jacket and singing I NEED YOU. Everyone woke up!

Mick is so f'ing cool, he defines cool for more than one generation. Let me see if I can find a picture....

Well, that's him getting off the plane! lol

Would you believe this is Mick Jagger's first Grammy performance? It was great, Mick, really great, the word is all over Twitter.

John Legend and Jewel Present Best New Artist Award at Grammys 2011

John Legend won three grammys tonight.

Nominees for Best New Artist:

Justin Bieber,
Drake
Florence and the Machine
Mumford & Sons
Esperanza Spalding

Winner is:

Esperanza Spalding

Eminem and Rhianna on 53rd Annual Grammy Award Show

Love Eminem and Rhianna's song I Love the Way You Lie.

(Commercial..Survivor has been on for 21 years??? WOW. How time flies when you aren't a fan.)

Up now, Rhianna, in a gorgeous evening gown, singing I Love the Way You Lie, very beautiful, intense song, and here comes Eminem for his part of the duet, he's a wild man! Always in his jeans and tennis shoes. Ooh, love the video in the background. Then here comes Dr. Dre. Hell, I don't even like rap and I am loving this performance.

Maybe the best performance of the night, I think I said that earlier but I was wrong. this post deserves a slot of its own.

53rd Annual Grammy Awards Live Coverage

Neil Patrick Harris introduces Katy Perry, performing Teenage Dream, in a sparkling dress in a sparkling swing. Gag me with a spoon.

Yawn....

Coming up next, thank God, is Song of the Year category. I am glad Neil Patrick Harris brought a bit of life into what it turning out to be a pretty lame show, actually, if you consider hosts.

Oh, ok. Here's Keith Urban, John Mayer, and, well, I don't know who the female is, but she's good, singing Joleen, Dolly Parton's great hit song. Ono of the best performances of the night.

Song of the Year winner is....I NEED YOU NOW! Lady Antebellum. Yeah!

Grammy Awards 2011 Live Coverage and Fashion

Dolly Parton and Julie Andrews receive Lifetime Achievement Award.

Lady Antebellum performs, If You Don't Know me by Now, Teddy Pendegrast great song.

Now let's talk about fashion! (Ooh, I love that song! I NEED YOU NOW!) "It's a quarter after 1 and I need you now!" Who's never been there?

Ok, fashion, sorry. Here's Kim Kardashian looking sexy as usual.

I love this dress Rhiana is wearing!

Oh boy! My song won, Lady Antebellum won BEST COUNTRY ALBUM!

Next is Big Bird, oops, no, that's Seymour, and they talk about Lady Gaga!

This gorgeous Jean Paul Gaultier is my favorite dress so far tonight. Nicole Kidman wears it perfectly.

Leanne Rhimes looks ghastly, and it's not just the dress. She is just not pretty like she was when she was a youngster. Hollyscoop.com called her the winner of the Golden Homewrecker award. Looks like Leanne would be smart like Trisha Yearwood was and retire to the mountains.

Grammy 2011 Live Coverage Continues, Lady Gaga, Bob Dylan, Mumford & Sons

I have loved Bob Dylan since he began his career, which was about 50 years ago, yeah, I'm that old.

Bob Dylan will perform in a minute, but first, the presentation of Best Pop Vocal Album, nominees, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Susan Boyle, John Mayer, Katie Perry, winner is LADY GAGA.

Lady Gaga thanked Whitney Houston. Ok. WHATEVER!

Cut to David Letterman with his famous top ten lists, Surprises at the 2011 Grammy Awards. #1 Justin Beiber wears a hairpiece.

Mumford & Sons performing, most excellent! Then the Avett Brothers. Wow, it's so cool to see these new groups reverting back to a style of dress and sound of an easier, calmer time, a mix of folk music, sweet vocals, and yet be still cutting edge.

Now to Bob Dylan!! The man. Ain't Gonna Work on Maggie's Farm. OMG, his voice is not working! Poor baby. I can't criticize, I love him too much. I think I'm gonna cry.

Eva Longoria's Dress Is Hideous! (Grammy's Live Coverage)

Eva Longoria is introducing Justin Bieber, video with Usher in 2007, he's got a great voice, already. But that dress Eva Longoria has on is hideous. I guess it's a skirt and blouse. While Justin performs I'll go search and see if I can find a picture of Eva's ugly outfit...

Word online right now says she looks gorgeous, well, she is gorgeous, granted, but ugh on the outfit for me.

Beiber performs then Usher, I like Usher ok, not that much into him though. Let me go find some more fashion photos...here's Nici Minaj

Now Best Rock Album..The Resistance. Never heard of them. I need to get up to date on music, fashion's more my thing.

Live Coverage of 53rd Annual Grammy Awards

Ryan Seacrest introduces--with 14 Grammys between them--Bruno Mars, Janelle Monae and B.o.B, great performance1 Violins, rapping, reverting to black and white video, very unique, I like it. Bruno Mars sounds so much like the old crooners, in fact I think of Smokey Robinson and Sammy Davis, Jr, mixed with a touch of Percy Sledge, and The Temptations.

Hard to pin this down, but I am a new fan! Next Janelle Monae does a solo, black Lady Gaga? Mosh Pit action there, not too impressed with this gal. she's ok, teeny bopper fare. (Spotted Cindy Lauper in the audience!)

Next up is Zack Brown, love him! As a presenter. Best Female Vocal Performance, Jewel, Miranda Lambert, Leanne Rhimes, Carrie Underwood, Gretchen Wilson, are the nominees, and the winner is....Miranda Lambert, for THE HOUSE THAT BUILT ME!! Beautiful!

Grammy 2011 Live Coverage Continues

Brett Sheldon Introduces Fiancee Miranda Lambert

I love this song! THE HOUSE THAT BUILT ME. I really don't care that much for country music, but this song will make you cry. Miranda Lambert is so cute, so down to earth, very country, and very real. I love the sexy chocolate brown, strapless dress she is wearing  tonight, (the image below is not at the Grammy's.)

Next up, Lenny Kravitz introduces Muse. Pretty good. Hey, Howard Stern is tweeting about the Grammys

The Grammy Awards 2011 Here We Go!

Grammy's start out with a tribute to Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul. I love that lady!(She's not present, health problems.) L.L.CoolJ says Aretha has won 18 Grammys. Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Yolanda Adams, (who's the redhead?) Martina McBride sing tracts of Aretha's songs. They're ok, but nobody can sing Aretha's songs like she can, as it should be, although Yolanda Adams is bad ass! Aretha was taped, thanking everyone, especially Clive Baker, for the honor. She looked good, has lost some weight, wearing a pretty white dress, very dressy.

The four ladies who did the tribute to Aretha present the first award of the night, Best Pop Duo or Group... Winner is TRAIN!! I love, love, love Train! Oh wow, what a surprise, I am SO glad they won! They deserve it.

Next up, Rickey Martin, introducing Lady Gaga singing BORN THIS WAY. She's back in her egg. I gotta say, she puts on a damn interesting show. Who knows, I may like her before the night's over! I think they outfits she and her crew are wearing are supposed to represent embryonic fluid, the egg being born, ok, got it.  She's pretty good, makes me want to get up and dance.

Ok, smoke break, look for my next post where we'll do some talking about what folks are wearing, my favorite part of any award show, but I will still report who's winning each category.

Lady Gaga on 60 Minutes Before the Grammys.

Lady Gaga is one weird chick. Dress it up any way you want. Sure, she's got talent, but what would she be without the makeup and costumes?

I have nothing against Lady Gaga, don't get me wrong. I just wonder what she's REALLY like after all the hype is removed, alone, just a person.

Here's a run down of what she had to say on 60 minutes:

Anderson Cooper conducts the interview, stating that Lady Gaga is nominated for 6 awards at the Grammy's tonight. Her real name is Stephanie Gerramanda, (gotta check that spelling.) Lady Gaga says people she knows call her Stephanie, especially in bed.

She says she never gets used to the papparazi. Anderson Cooper comments on her 10 inch heels.

They went to a small pub in London, for a drink. "I'm a master at the art of fame." Lady Gaga says. Cooper comments that some of Lady Gaga's performances are reminiscent of Madonna's, but she's more outrageous. She never lip syncs. Then there is footage of Gaga at one of her concerts, where she tells her fans that she wants them to let go of all their insecurities, and the camera shows some fans crying, they truly love her. Anderson says Gaga is a true performance artist. She says she is a student of art form. She says she has studied the physiology of fame, and how to get people to focus on her what she wants them to, which is part of what the costumes are about, so they won't concentrate on her personal life.

"Everybody wants to see the decay of a superstar," Lady Gaga tells Cooper. She was doing a lot of cocaine and dropped out of college 5 or 6 years ago. They visited the building she used to live in, pretty low rent. The renters wouldn't open the door to her old apartment. She says he felt disenfranchised at her Catholic girls school. "I was able to leave such a massive amount of insecurities behind when I left that name," speaking of her real name. She admits she smokes a lot of pot. (People who aren't insecure don't need to get high, just my opinion.)

"I have built good will with my fans, they know who I am. I am just like them." Lady Gaga says. "People take me way too seriously, then not seriously enough."

On the Red Carpet at the Grammys!

Ok, guys and dolls, this is the beginning of my live coverage of the Grammy Awards, 2011! What fun I am going to have tonight. The red carpet coverage is about to begin. I did not know that Eminem is nominated for 10 Grammys! That is f'ing awesome. I have loved him since he was cleaning out his closet.

I cannot WAIT to see Barbra Streisand and Mick Jagger perform!

Here's Lady Gaga arriving in an egg:

Here is a big time blog that is also blogging live about the Grammy's:

NY Times Arts Beat blog has a great recap of the pre-telecast award winners.

Check out my Twitter page too! I will be tweeting each of my Grammy coverage post, retweeting great tweets from others.

Right now I am going to watch the interview with Lady Gaga on 60 minutes. Be back in a few minutes with blow by blows and my thoughts on what Lady Gaga has to say.

Confessions of a Bohemian Queen Bee

I suppose, looking back, I must have decided if I were going to suffer through empty nest when my son went away to college, I might as well go all the way. I took it literally. I sold everything I had except for family photos, objects of sentiment and my personal belongings, packed my meager worldly treasures, moved in with a girlfriend and started writing. Truth be told, I was having somewhat of an existential crisis. I had owned a small business for ten years and was fed up with the rat race.

For the sake of brevity, I will leave the story of what happened between then and when I married my husband for another day. I will say that he was living in a bachelor pad and was definitely not a metro-sexual, which means we started from scratch.

Going into debt was not an option. We’d both had our fill of that. But there were things we had to have; a bed, two computers, two desks, high speed internet; you know--the necessities.

What do you do with an almost empty apartment and lean pockets? You bless the heart of Rachel Ashwell, who coined the term Shabby Chic, turning garage sales and flea markets into vogue. And I thank my Grandma for teaching me that you often CAN make a silk purse from a sow’s ear. Over a period of six months my husband and I built a new nest together, a nest in which each room has a theme. Not the original plan. Maybe it was serendipity. All I know for sure is that it was fun and it didn't cost very much.

Our kitchen resembles a cantina. This was decided by the Mexican tiles on the bar and the two bar stools we ran across with ragged seats, $1.00 for both, with a bolt of forest green and white striped material sitting on a table next to them for $3.00. I recovered the seats with that beautiful material. I bought matching picture frames at a discount store, found two pictures online, a male and a female flamingo dancer, glued the material as backing for the pictures, and voila! Add curtains same material. Red, green and yellow tiny vases, again, bought at a discount store, which I filled with dried, colored flowers.

There is a cart the microwave sits on. In its previous life it was raw wood and lived in a garage, a table for tools. It cost $3.00. I cleaned it up, refinished it, and painted it forest green. On the wall is one of my husband’s finds; a clock. It is a little man in a sombrero, in his arms a timer.

Our bedroom is a trip back in time. I have a jewelry box which is at least 50 years old that my Grandma had setting on her vanity for as long as I remember. It is light brown wood, and has leaves and flowers carved on the top and the sides. There is a mirror on the inside of the lid. The glass is smoky, and the image you see almost feels as if you have stepped back into the past.

Get Natalie Portman's Look!

I found this great article on how to get Natalie Portman's look at Posh on a Budget. Natalie Portman is the current Hollywood darling. The one thing you will notice is that this great actress is a chameleon when it comes to fashion and hairstyles. In fact, you might have to do a double take when you compare to different images of her, for she looks often life two different people. *Maybe why she was so good in Black Swan?
